CHINATOWN

The Agency, effective January 26, 2005, entered into an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement with the Historic Chinatown, LLC for a proposed mixed-use housing retail/commercial and public facilities development on approximately 165 acres. The Agency initiated land assembly and plan amendments necessary to implement a mixed-use plan.

The City, Redevelopment Agency, and the Chinatown
Revitalization Corporation are working closely together
to complete the adopted Streetscape Beautification
Project and the Facade Improvement Program for
Chinatown. The district provides a diversity of ethnic
restaurants for downtown workers and visitors.

The Chinatown Beautification Project includes the construction of landscaped bulbs at street intersections and planters at mid block. In addition, since the inception of the Facade Improvement Program, many Chinatown businesses have been assisted in refurbishing their storefronts.

 

 

In addition there are several proposed plans to preserve this historic and cultural center while couraging the development of mixed use properties that will include offices, shops,entertainment, and housing.
