Creating Jobs

Redevelopment creates jobs for Fresno. The Agency makes it a priority to implement projects that provide for employment opportunities. The Agency encourages developers and businesses to seek qualified employees within the project areas.

As urban renewal occurs within blighted areas, it spurs new development that acts as a catalyst for even greater growth and the potential of greater job creation. Historically, Fresno has suffered from high unemployment rate; however, as Fresno grows unemployment rates are becoming more manageable.

There continues to be hope on the horizon. Situated comfortably between two of the world's busiest trade centers, Fresno is becoming a commercial hub in its own right. Within the last couple of years, Fresno has experienced a noted growth in high-tech jobs especially those involving communications equipment manufacturing and services. The cost of living makes Fresno an attractive place to locate a company. The Agency works closely with Economic Development Corporation and other organizations in attracting new businesses and retaining existing businesses in the area. Notable companies that have either recently located or expanded within redevelopment area include the Sequoia Brewing Company, Caesar Chavez Adult School, Casablanca, Producers Dairy and the Gap.
