SOUTH STADIUM AREA PROJECT

The South Stadium Project is another proposed mixed-use development in downtown Fresno. It will include several square blocks south of the Fulton Mall area.

In July 2004, the Agency approved and entered into an Exclusive Negotiation Agreement with Forest City Development for the South Stadium Project that proposes about 85 acres of mixed-use entertainment, commercial and housing development located south and southeast of Chukchansi Stadium. To implement South Stadium redevelopment activity, amendments to the Convention Center Plan were initiated. Following the Agency Board's authorizing action in August 2004, a Citizen's Advisory Committee (CAC) was created to provide input and make recommendations on the proposed amendments. The Agency commenced the process with ongoing CAC and public information meetings since September 2004.

This $350 to $400 million Development will offer locations for entertainment, shopping and downtown urban housing. Phase I of this multi-phase project will include over 650 apartments, 100 town homes and 60,000 square feet of retail space. This first phase should be completed in 2011 with future phases to include major retailers, a neighborhood park, and movie theater.

Fresno's Multipurpose Stadium is a 12,500 seat facility, home to the AAA Grizzles (Giants) and venue for concerts, international soccer meets, high school football and many other community events.

Located at Tulare and Broadway, and opened May 1, 2002, the stadium hosts an estimated 900,000 patrons per year and employs 41 Full-time Jobs as well as 475 Seasonal Jobs. This $48 million entertainment and sports venue provides a great location for evening and weekend activities in Downtown Fresno.
